7. EATING DISORDERS
If you suffer from anorexia and are super skinny, you may have low estrogen levels. That can cause bone loss just as it does in postmenopausal women. In addition, having anorexia or bulimia can greatly limit the amount of nutrients that are absorbed into the bloodstream and delivered to the bones.
8. BREAST CANCER
Some women with breast cancer (those with estrogen-sensitive cancer) are treated with aromatase inhibitors, which reduce the amount of estrogen in the body. The lowered estrogen levels can lead to bone loss and increased risk of osteoporosis. Patients are often given osteoporosis prevention medication, bisphosphonates, as well as calcium and vitamin D, to help prevent the bone loss.
